- Blow Molding
Blow molding is used to manufacture bottles, containers, cans etc. In this type of manufacturing, you make a pre-shaped hollow melted thermoplasts into desired shape. This is then enclosed by a mold called parison. Then Air Pressure is used to expand the parison inside the mold, making a hollow product. As the name suggests, air is blown into the parison, and thus making a hollow product of a desired shape.
- Rotational Molding
Plastic Powder is used in rotational Molding. This type of molding does not use any kind of thermoplasts, but is essentially used to make hollow products. A closed shaped mold is filled with powder, and this powder filled mold is put in a furnace. The mold is rotated so that, when the powder melts, it sprays the plastic on the inside of the mold. It is used in manufacturing toys, furniture, etc.
- It provides only a single coating of plastic.
- It negates the use of thermoplastics.
- Extrusion Molding
Melted plastic is pressed through a die to get the desired shape out of it, creating a fixed shape. Many pipes, seals, frames are made in this fashion. Plastic can be melted and reused, or we can have multiple coatings of plastic via this process.
- Injection Molding
The most common type of molding method used in the world is Injection molding. Similar to Extrusion Molding, plastic pellets are superheated and melted in an injection machine. This melted plastic is then injected into a mold, which is filled with plastic, and desired shape is obtained.
The mold can be the whole equipment or a part of any main equipment. Small products that we use in kitchen to very large parts, this manufacturing process offers maximum variety and is widely used.
- Vacuum Forming
Here a plastic sheet is melted and forced into a mold using vacuum. The plastic then takes the shape of the mold. The finished item is then cut off from the plastic sheet.
The loss of material is not an issue for plastics manufacturing. Since any material lost during manufacturing process can be melted and reused to make new products. This saves much cost and should be utilized fully.
